Adair County Inmate Records Overview
No official online Adair County Detention Center roster or searchable public inmate list was located on the county government site or the older sheriff site. That changes the normal lookup order. For current custody, start with the Adair County Detention Center control room at (660) 665-4644 ext. 1. For in-person help, use the Sheriff's Office and jail location at 215 N. Franklin St., Kirksville, MO 63501. For older records, copies, or records that staff cannot release by phone, use the Sheriff's public records request process.
The Adair County jail record path is not the same as a court case search or state prison search. The jail holds people arrested by the Sheriff's Office, Kirksville Police, Truman Department of Public Safety, surrounding counties, and other agencies. A new booking may still be in the jail before charges appear in court. Once a criminal case is filed, Missouri Case.net is the public court search. Once a person is sentenced to state prison, use MODOC Offender Search, not the county jail. Federal prisoners use the BOP Inmate Locator, and immigration custody uses ICE Online Detainee Locator.
No official Adair County sheriff or Kirksville Police custody mobile app was located in the research. A statewide Missouri Sheriff Connect app exists, but no official source tied Adair County inmate records to that app. Use the control room, the records request page, Case.net, MODOC, BOP, ICE, and VINELink/MOVANS notification tools where supported instead.
Use Adair County Jail Roster Fallbacks
Because a live Adair County jail roster was not found, the search order should be practical and source based. A phone check is best for current custody. A written Sunshine request is better for a copy of an arrest report, booking record, release record, or other stored record. Case.net is best when the question is about filed charges, hearings, warrants, or case disposition. MODOC and federal systems should be used only when the person may have left county control.
- Call the Adair County Detention Center control room and ask whether the person is currently held in the jail.
- Have the full legal name, date of birth if known, arrest date, arresting agency, and any court case number ready.
- Ask whether bond, court date, release status, or a case number is available for public release.
- Visit the Sheriff's Office in person during public counter hours if the request needs a written form or identity check.
- Submit a written public records request if staff cannot release the detail by phone or the record is no longer a current custody question.
- Search Case.net for filed charges, then MODOC, BOP, ICE, or MOVANS/VINELink if the person may be in another system.
Adair County Jail Search Fields
The research did not locate an official county web form with public Adair County jail roster fields. The useful field inventory is therefore a preparation list for the control room and written requests, plus separate fields for statewide and federal locators. The more exact the identifying data is, the less likely staff or a portal will confuse people with similar names.

Adair County Inmate Record Fields
Since no official Adair County online inmate profile was found, the county website should not be described as displaying a booking number, housing unit, mugshot, charges, bond, or release date online. Those details may still exist in jail, law-enforcement, or court records. The right wording is to request or verify them through the jail, the Sheriff's public records process, or Case.net when they relate to filed court charges.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Name and identifiers | Legal name, possible alias, date of birth, and redacted identifying data when releasable. |
| Booking date and time | When the person was processed into the Adair County Detention Center. |
| Arresting agency | Whether the arrest came from Adair County Sheriff's Office, Kirksville Police, Truman DPS, or another agency. |
| Charges or alleged offenses | Initial booking allegations or filed court charges. These can change after prosecutor review. |
| Bond status | Whether a bond is set, denied, changed, or tied to court conditions. |
| Hold or detainer notes | Information about another agency hold, probation/parole matter, federal hold, or immigration issue when public. |
| Release date or status | Whether the person remains in custody or has been released, if the record can be disclosed. |
Adair County Public Records Requests
The Sheriff's Office accepts written public records requests through its records page and the Request for Copy of Public Records form. The county says written requests are preferred and may be submitted in person, by mail, or by fax through the Sheriff's process. Missouri public records rules require action as soon as possible and no later than the end of the third business day after receipt. If more time is needed for reasonable cause, the Records Coordinator must give a detailed explanation and the earliest time and date the record will be available. If the request is denied, the denial must state the legal grounds.
A strong request for Adair County jail inmate records should name the person, give the date of birth if known, list the arrest or booking date, identify the arresting agency if known, and ask for the specific record. Examples include an arrest report, booking record, booking photograph, release record, bond information, or jail incident record. Missouri law opens arrest and incident reports, but it also permits redaction or closure for juvenile information, victim safety, active investigations, confidential techniques, Social Security numbers, and certain victim identifiers.
Records law: RSMo 610.100 treats arrest and incident reports as open records subject to exceptions. RSMo 610.023 sets the Sunshine request response rule used by the county records page.
Adair County Custody Systems
One common mistake is searching the wrong system. The Adair County Detention Center is a local jail. It can hold pretrial detainees, county-sentenced inmates, people arrested by local agencies, and some holds for surrounding agencies. MODOC is for people under state corrections supervision, including active prison inmates, probationers, and parolees. BOP is federal prison custody. ICE is immigration detention. MOVANS and VINELink are notification tools, not a full substitute for a jail record request.
| Custody Type | Where to Look | What It Does Not Cover |
|---|---|---|
| Current Adair County jail custody | Control room at (660) 665-4644 ext. 1 or in-person contact | State prison, federal prison, or ICE transfer after county release. |
| Filed criminal case | Missouri Case.net and Adair County Circuit Clerk | Unfiled booking allegations or confidential records. |
| State prison, probation, parole | Missouri DOC Offender Search | Discharged offenders and fresh county bookings. |
| Federal custody | BOP Inmate Locator | County arrests and most state cases. |
| Immigration detention | ICE Online Detainee Locator | County jail roster details and state prison status. |
| Victim notice | MOVANS/VINELink through Missouri victim notification resources | Formal copies of jail records or court filings. |
Adair County Jail Contact
The primary local facility is the Adair County Detention Center, operated by the Adair County Sheriff's Office under Sheriff Jason Lene. The older sheriff corrections page describes the building as a local detention center with an intake processing area, holding cells, four housing units, medical care arrangements, on-site meals, and laundry. It serves Adair County, Kirksville, Truman Department of Public Safety, surrounding counties, and other agencies.

Adair County Booking Process
Booking starts after an arrest by a local or outside agency. The person is taken to the Adair County Detention Center, where jail staff process identification, property, intake records, and placement. The facility has a documented intake processing area and holding cells. Classification then helps decide housing and separation. In plain terms, classification is the jail's safety review for housing, supervision, gender separation, civil or criminal status, and other risks. Missouri law also requires certain separation rules in county jails.
A booking record is not the same as a conviction. A booking reflects custody after arrest. The prosecutor may later file different charges, reduce charges, dismiss charges, or add charges in court. Bond and first appearance details depend on the court, the judge, the type of allegation, and any hold from another agency. When the goal is to see what charges were actually filed after the jail booking, search Case.net by case number or litigant name.
Note: No Adair County page publishes how fast a new booking appears online because no official online roster was located.
Adair County Jail Visitation
The county visitation page says all detainees are allowed two 30-minute visits each week. Visit days and times are assigned by housing area or room, so the control room must be called for the specific detainee's schedule. Visitors enter from the Franklin Street side lobby and sign in at the control room window at the far end of the lobby. Photo identification is required, and contact visits are not allowed except for attorneys or other officials.
| Visitation Item | Adair County Rule |

Adair County Inmate Contact
Mail for a detainee is sent to the Adair County Sheriff's Office address with the detainee's name, and the sender must put a full legal name and full return address on the envelope. Mail is screened for contraband. The county lists prohibited items and markings such as stickers, stains, lipstick, cologne or perfume smell, nude or adult-child photos, and offensive drawings. Denied mail is returned when a return address exists. If no return address exists, the detainee is notified and may appeal.
Detainees cannot receive incoming calls, and jail staff do not pass routine phone messages. Emergency messages are screened case by case. Outgoing calls use NCIC Inmate Communications, and detainees receive a PIN for collect calls from the housing unit. Friends and family may use NCIC for account help, while prepaid minutes can also be purchased through commissary. For money, the jail uses Keefe Commissary, AccessCorrections.com, the Access Corrections phone line, and the visitor lobby kiosk. Same-week commissary requires funds before the Monday deadline listed by the county.
Note: Confirm current custody with the jail before sending money, scheduling a visit, or mailing time-sensitive documents.
